I really hate when I hear preachers or christians in general telling people “If you give your life to God, you won’t have to worry about anything every again, all of your days will good from here on out”.
What is all of that about?
If you’ve been a christian for any amount of time, you already know that this is not true. Bad days are inevitable. No one is exempt from them. They come to good people, bad people, rich people, poor people, black people, and white people. You may come across people who appear to be living the perfect life and everyday seems bliss for them, but behind the scenes, I assure you that they have bad days too.
Even me, as a personal development author and youth mentor, who teaches people how to live a better life, I have bad days all the time lol. But there are a few things that I do to turn my bad days into good days and I want to share them with you below:
1. Have Fun.
I know this is hard for most adults, being barbed down with responsibilities of rent, care notes, and taking care of the kids; but taking time out of your day to have some fun is the best way to go from pissed to bliss.
Smile. Laugh. Love. Play cards. Go to the park. Play with the kids. Watch a funny movie. Go see a game. Call that special someone. Read a good book. Whatever it is that brightens up your day and brings the kid out in you, do that.
2. Do something nice for someone.
For most of us, it’s hard to think about someone else when you’re having a bad day yourself, but I notice anytime I go out of my way to do something nice for someone — my mood automatically changes from sad or mad to happy and content.
The reason is because we were put here to serve. God created us to be of service to the people around us just as Jesus was of service to the people around Him. No matter what we are going through, when we are involving in acts of service, life always feels more fulfilling. So if you’re having a bad day, go do what you were created to do – be of service.
3. Count Your Blessings.
Whenever you’re having one of those days, do this: grab a sheet of paper or a notebook and write down a list of everything that you’re thankful for. Write until you can’t write anymore.
I do this too. And usually, as I’m listing all of the things that I’m thankful for, I began to realize just how blessed I am. Considering the fact that every 3.6 seconds, a child dies of hunger and starvation around the world – I have no legitimate reason to be upset about anything. And if you have a roof over your head and food to eat Monday through Sunday — neither do you.
4. Call the most encouraging person you know.
We all have that someone in our lives that we can go to for an encouraging word. For me, it’s my mom and my grandma. They always seem to have the right perspective on things. For you, it may be your best friend, your cousin, your uncle or aunt, your significant other etc. But whoever it is, call them.
Don’t let your pride stop you from sharing your problems with someone who can help you overcome them. God places people in our lives for a reason. We all need each others support to travel through out this journey called life. So if you’re having a bad day and need a little boost, call the most encouraging person you know — God placed them in your life for a reason.
I saved the best for last. Prayer is the best way I know how to get through bad days. I know sometimes we read Philippians 4:13 and think that we are big and bad and can turn things around on our own, but whenever I try to go at things on my own without going to God about it first, it always ends bad. And I’m sure you can relate.
So when life becomes to hard to stand…kneel. Get on your knees and pray. What could be more encouraging than talking to the Creator of the Universe? He created life, so only He has the answers to it.
I hope you enjoyed these tips. But I’m sure there are many more out there that will help. So what do you do to turn your bad day into a good day? Let me know in the comments below…
